GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Approach® Biological Odor Eliminator, can be used on any surface that is safe for contact with water, including counter tops, carpets, floors, upholstery, clothing, bandages and intact skin. It may also be sprayed directly into the air.

To apply Approach, spray liberally into the area surrounding the odor source of an organically-caused odor such as feces, urine, emesis or other excretion, and on the source itself. (DO NOT spray on broken skin!) If possible, clean up and remove the odor source and spray again if needed. In general, spray Approach until the odor is gone. For spills on carpets, Approach may also be poured directly from the bottle so that it penetrates to the padding below.

The basic rule when using Approach is to "Spray until the odor goes away.™"

SOURCE-SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS FOR USE

ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT - Spray running shoes, hockey and lacrosse pads, helmets and gloves and gym bags as needed to eliminate odor.

BANDAGES AND DRESSINGS - Spray Approach liberally onto used odiferous bandages and dressings, then dispose.

BATHROOMS - Spray Approach on all odiferous surfaces. Approach may also be sprayed into the air to remove any residual odors.

BEDPANS - Empty bedpan and spray Approach into it, completely saturating soil. Rinse bedpan and spray again. Spray Approach into the air, if desired, to remove any residual odor.

BODY ODORS - Spray or pour Approach directly on unbroken skin, remove any visible soil and spray again. Approach may also be poured on a warm damp washcloth before application to skin. Spray Approach into the air to eliminate any residual odor.

CARS - Spray car interiors including headliners, carpeting and ductwork to eliminate mystery odors or odors resulting from spilled food, fuel, etc.

CARPETS - For spot cleaning, remove as much visible soil as possible. Spray Approach on carpet surface, completely saturating area. Sop up excess moisture with clean, dry towel. For soaked-in stains and odors, remove cap and pour Approach to completely soak affected area. Wait a few minutest, then sop up excess moisture with clean, dry towel.

CASTS/SPLINTS - Spray or wipe Approach on the skin after the cast or splint has been removed. Remove as much dead skin and debris as possible and spray again. Spray Approach liberally onto the discarded cast or splint. Approach can also be used in cast traps.

CATHETERS - Pour 30-60cc of Approach on the bottom of the collection container (not down drain). Empty urine into container, dispose of urine in usual manner and spray container to remove any residual odor. Adjust amounts more or less as needed for smaller patients or for more severe odors.

CLOTHING - Remove soil. Spray Approach directly on water-safe fabric especially in high-perspiration areas. Rub area with clean, dry towel and repeat if necessary.

DIAPERS & DIAPER PAILS - Spray Approach on feces and urine to neutralize odor, flush feces down toilet, spray diaper again, then dispose of diaper as usual. Spray Approach on diaper area of body, remove residual soil and spray the diaper area again. Approach can reduce diaper rash. Spray Approach in diaper pail to control odor as needed.

DIARRHEA AND INCONTINENCE - Remove feces and saturate residual diarrhea with Approach. Wipe clean and spray again. Spray surrounding area, wipe clean and spray again. May also be sprayed on bedding to prevent staining and to remove odor.

DRAINAGE TUBES - (Closed system) Pour 30-60cc of Approach into transport container before emptying material into it. Dispose of material as usual, spray again. (Open system) Dispense 30-60cc of Approach via 60cc cath tip syringe into collection bag before use and again after emptying. Adjust amounts more or less as needed for smaller patients or for more severe odors.

DRAINS - Pour Approach into odiferous drain. Allow Approach to penetrate drain. Repeat if necessary.

EMESIS - Spray Approach into basin after emptying. Spray on any spills, remove soil and spray again. Safe and effective for use on unbroken skin.

EXCRETIONS, DRAINAGES - (Enemas, etc.) - Spray Approach on seepage or drainage, remove soil and spray again.

FLATULENCE - Spray Approach into air after each occurrence.

FLOORS - Remove soil. Spray Approach on floor surface. Allow to dry naturally, or dry with a clean towel.

FOOT ODORS - Spray Approach directly on foot and inside shoes.

FURNITURE - Use on water-safe fabric only. For spot cleaning, remove as much visible soil as possible. Spray Approach on furniture, completely saturating area. Sop up excess moisture with clean, dry towel. Procedure may need to be repeated for soaked-in stains and odors.

HAIR CARE - Safe and effective for use on hair. Spray or pour Approach into hair, comb, brush or wipe through. No rinsing necessary.

HOUSE SALES - Spray throughout house before buyers arrive for viewing.

NG TUBES - Pour 30-60cc of Approach into transport container before draining NG secretions into it. Empty and flush as usual, then spray Approach into container to eliminate any residual odor. Spray Approach on any spillage, remove spill and spray again. Adjust amounts more or less as needed for smaller patients or for more severe odors.

OSTOMY APPLIANCES - Pour 15-30cc of Approach into clean (closed) pouch before applying to stoma. It may be poured on tissue or cotton balls. If this is done, put the tissue or cotton balls into pouch, letting them remain until the next cleaning. Empty pouch as usual when soiled. Put Approach into pouch every time it is emptied, cleaned or changed. Adjust amounts more or less as needed for smaller patients or for more severe odors. Spray into the air during pouch cleaning.

PETS - Treat urine and feces as described elsewhere on this page. You may also spray your dog or cat if they have some residual odor on their bodies such as from an encounter with a skunk, rolling in manure, "doggy odor", etc.

RECTAL TUBES - Dispense 30-60cc of Approach via 60cc syringe into drainage bag at the time of insertion. Replace Approach at each emptying, cleaning or replacement. Adjust amounts more or less as needed for smaller patients or for more severe odors.

SANITARY NAPKINS - Spray Approach on soiled napkin, completely saturating the soiled area. Dispose of napkin. Spray Approach in the air, if desired.

SMOKING - Spray Approach in the air until tobacco odor is eliminated. Spray drapes, upholstery, bedding, etc. to remove tobacco odor.

TRAVEL - Carry Approach while travelling to deal with smelly restrooms, public transport, etc.
